Born in 1967, Manuel Guillén founded Mediterranean Capital Management in 2005, acting as Chief Executive Officer until today. Since its inception the Company focused on acquiring and managing high-yield financial assets for itself and/or their customers, evolving to its current range of products and financial services, legal and investment advice.

Manuel’s main responsibilities are: ensuring that the Company invests its resources in accordance with the guidelines set by its shareholders, obtaining and maintaining committed financial returns and keeping levels of risk within defined parameters for each of the investment plans. It is also responsible for direct communication with major shareholders, partners and corporate clients regarding product development and investment strategies.

Manuel Guillén accumulates nearly fifteen years of experience in analysis and decision making in general management related to investment and corporate finance activities. His interest in the analysis and management of underperforming financial instruments (distressed securities) started when he experienced most of the 1992-1996 economic crisis at his position in the client’s area of Banca Catalana, currently BBVA. Until the creation of Mediterranean Capital Management, Manuel developed his professional career in various senior management positions as CEO of Bertelsmann Online in Spain and Latin America, COO of Telefonica B2B Construction for Latin America and, finally, CEO of BravoSolution-Italcementi Spain. Manuel Guillen has lived in Spain, the United States and Brazil, and developed his career in Spain, the United States, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Iran, Germany, Austria and the UK.

Throughout his career he has been responsible or supervisor of more than five hundred investment decisions on high-yield assets & distressed assets, maintaining the returns for funds invested consistently above the market average for investments of equivalent risk.

Manuel has written a large number of articles, analysis and reports, and lectured about the market of financial instruments in default or near default situation. Former basketball player and former professional basketball referee of the Spanish Professional Basketball League, has been for over fifteen years and executive member of the Spanish Basketball Clubs Association (ACB), serving as the Referee’s Director and Chairman of the Referees Committee of the ACB. Currently, he combines his sailing activities with his passion for air races, competitions in which he participates flying a Cirrus SR22 airplane.

Manuel Guillén received a J.D in Law from the Law School of the University of Barcelona and a MBA from the Instituto de Estudios Superiores de la Empresa (IESE), University of Navarra. Manuel is member of the Il.lustre Col.legi d’Advocats de Barcelona (ICAB), member of the Loan Syndication and Trading Association (LSTA), the Turnaround Management Association (TMA) and member of the Círculo de Economía de Barcelona.
